Caroline Pearce- Account Executive
University of Nottingham: Business Management
I joined the Ecom team as a fresh graduate back in the Summer of 2010, eager to put my competitive urges to good use and rebuild my bank account so it no longer started with a minus! New to the digital industry I joined the Technical team here at Ecom and began my career as a digital recruitment consultant.
It’s difficult to summarise a typical day because every day is different and every day is what you make it. Whether it’s straight into the office at 8.30 greeted by a carefully selected tune on spotify, or off to meet a client for an exciting pitch, my day is full of endless possibilities. With some solid training in all things digital, thrown in with a bit of sales and an office of friendly, helpful colleagues, I was all set to be a successful consultant!
I guess if you had to simplify it down a typical day would begin with a team morning meeting where everyone shares information on candidates and provides a bit of help for any roles you’re struggling to fill. And then the rest of my day will have the main focus of either finding candidates for the roles i’m working on or talking to new clients in the industry to drum up some new business and keep my commission rolling in. How I go about this can vary from searching the job boards and writing job ads to meeting my candidates for drinks and getting to know the best people in the industry on a more personal level. Through reading the latest industry magazines and blogs I can find new and exciting clients to try and work with while dedicating some afternoons to solid business development. It can take a while, and definitely requires determination but there’s nothing better than sourcing your own client, bringing them on board and filling that first role! Even better when the second and third arrive in your inbox!
Typically the Ecom office empties out between 6 and 6.15, but the fun doesn’t stop here. Every Monday I organise a group of the girls to head off to a local sports centre where we play in a social netball league, and Tuesday see’s the boys heading off to football. No problem if you’re not the sporty type, with such a young, sociable company you’re never struggling to find someone to share a lunch break with or drinks after work on a Friday.
After 9 months at Ecom I look forward to coming to work, with different challenges, opportunities, and exciting deals each week not to mention the generous commission on top of every pay packet, what more could you ask for!?
